Tennessee House District 63 candidate Jake McCalmon on Wednesday picked up the endorsement of a small business-focused group.
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), known as the “voice of small business,” opted to endorse the businessman over his other GOP rivals.
“Our members support the candidates who demonstrate they will support small business consistently, and Jake McCalmon has shown us that he understands the significant challenges today for our state’s entrepreneurs,” said Jim Brown, the NFIB’s state director for Tennessee. “Jake McCalmon is committed to creating and maintaining a positive environment for small businesses in the district and across our state.”
In total, the organization endorsed 76 legislative candidates across the state, many of which are incumbents running for an additional term.
When thanking the group for its support, McCalmon pledged to support small businesses if elected to the state legislature.
“As a small business owner in Williamson County, I know how critical it is that we have elected officials who understand what businesses need to succeed, and I am honored that NFIB identified me as someone that they are confident will prioritize those interests,” Jake McCalmon added in an emailed release. “I will always fight for our small businesses in Williamson County and across Tennessee, and I am extremely grateful to have NFIB’s endorsement.”
Earlier this month, McCalmon also picked up the backing of Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA), as the group detailed the candidate “is already heavily involved in his community, and will be a great asset to Tennesseans in Williamson County and across the state in the General Assembly.”
In addition to McCalmon, two other candidates–Laurie Cardoza-Moore and James Sloan are vying for the GOP nomination in the 63rd District in the August 4 primary.
The winner of the GOP primary will advance to the state’s general elections. The winner of the November contest will replace former House Speaker Glen Casada.
